Job Search Tips

  • Avoid acronyms when searching. Use full titles (e.g. search for Licensed Practical Nurse instead of LPN).
  • Use broad search criteria. Narrow searches may filter out relevant postings.
  • Search by job category, not just job title. Job titles may not always reflect the work you’re looking for (e.g. a role in Human Resources might be titled Records Associate).
  • Select multiple options in the “Location” or “Site Categories” fields by holding down Control (Ctrl) on a PC or Command (⌘) on a Mac.

Applying for Multiple Jobs?

  • Customize your resume and cover letter for each position.
  • Update and save your resume and cover letter in your profile before applying for a specific posting.
    • Note: Once you apply, your application captures a snapshot of your profile at that time. You won’t be able to change your resume or cover letter for that specific job afterward.

Resume & Attachments

The Resume Text field in your profile is required – copy and paste or type your resume into this field.

  • You’re encouraged to upload attachments (e.g. certificates, test results, general resumes) to support your application. These attachments are visible to all Hiring Managers and the Recruitment team, so keep them generic.
  • For job-specific resumes and cover letters, be sure to save them in your profile before applying.

For Island Health Employees:

If you’re a current ISLH employee, you must log in to VI Hire using your Island Health email address (e.g. [email protected]) to access employee-only job postings.
