At Island Health, we’re building a workplace, and a health system, where people from all backgrounds feel safe, valued, and supported. We’re committed to anti-racism, cultural safety, and equity in everything we do.

We acknowledge the harm caused by colonization, systemic racism, and discrimination, and we’re taking action to remove barriers that impact Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour (IBPOC), 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, and people with disabilities.

We invite applications and enquiries from all people, particularly those belonging to the historically, systemically, and/or persistently marginalized groups identified under the B.C. Human Rights Code.

Island Health is committed to eradicating Indigenous-specific racism, which includes dismantling barriers to health care employment at every level. We welcome Indigenous individuals to apply and/or contact the Indigenous Employee Experience team at [email protected] for employment support.

If you’re looking for a place where your voice matters and your contributions make a difference, we’d love to have you on our team.

At Island Health, we acknowledge that colonization, systemic racism and discrimination have created conditions where Indigenous, Black, and People of Color (IBPOC), persons with disabilities, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community face disproportionate health inequities. We are dedicated to advancing equitable and inclusive healthcare systems, programs, and service delivery.

We explicitly recognize the significant harm and impact of colonization and racism on Indigenous Peoples. Island Health’s Indigenous-specific anti-racism initiatives are rooted in addressing the unique forms of discrimination, historical and ongoing injustices, and marginalization faced by Indigenous peoples. These initiatives align with an Indigenous rights-based approach, recognizing the inherent rights and self-determination of Indigenous communities. Island Health is committed to addressing Indigenous-specific systemic, structural, and interpersonal biases within our structures and processes. All organizational leaders will be held accountable to actively promote anti-racism, cultural safety, and humility.

The cumulative effects of racist and discriminatory policies, practices, and procedures have led to significant health disparities, unsafe access to care, worsening health outcomes, and lower life expectancy for affected populations, especially Indigenous Peoples. Island Health considers this a serious public health threat that demands immediate intervention and action.

Island Health is dedicated to improving the health, well-being, and experiences of everyone who interacts with the health care system. We are committed to unlearning, understanding, and acting in ways that promote anti-racist and anti-discriminatory approaches and address white privilege. At Island Health, we have zero tolerance for racist and discriminatory conduct. Our collective goal is to identify and address systemic and interpersonal barriers to mitigate the harm perpetuated by privilege and racism, and create the conditions that foster safety and belonging.
